Terms of Use 

The Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (MFO) makes its image collection available online at https://opc.mfo.de, for the purpose of browsing and requesting permission to use the images. To prevent misuse, the images are displayed at a reduced resolution and with watermarks. The following terms and conditions apply to the use of the images:

1.   Request of permission to use full-resolution images and images without watermark

Permission to use images in full resolution or images without watermarks needs to be requested, specifying the ID of the image, the intended use, and a valid billing address.

If permission is granted, it applies only to the agreed-upon, one-time use. The permission is not transferable. Sharing the images with third parties is not permitted.

The use of our full-resolution images and images without watermarks in electronic publications is prohibited (paragraph 4 specifies the conditions under which low-resolution images with watermark may be used instead). In particular, the publication of such images on websites and download portals, as well as their use on social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn YouTube etc.) is not permitted.

2.   Processing fee

The MFO charges a processing fee per image and per use for the provision of full-resolution images and images without watermarks. You will receive a quote. Once you accept it, we will send you an invoice and release the images upon receipt of payment. If the fee is not paid, the permission to use the image shall be deemed not to have been granted.

A discount or waiver of the processing fee may only be granted at the MFO’s discretion for clearly non-commercial use. The user is responsible for providing proof of non-commercial use, which must be submitted at the time of request. There is no legal entitlement to a discount or waiver of the processing fee.

3.   Complimentary copy

For verification that the full-resolution images and images without watermarks are being used as requested, please send us a complimentary copy.

4.   Use of images in reduced resolution with watermark

If the MFO owns the copyright of an image, this image may be freely used in reduced resolution with watermark under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Germany license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/de/deed.en). If the MFO is not the copyright-holder of the image, permission to use it must generally be requested – this applies also for images in reduced resolution with watermark.

5.   Image credits

You are required to indicate the source of the image and its author (if provided in the field “author” of the photo database) for any image you use, including those at reduced resolution or with a watermark.

The information must be provided as follows: “Author’s name, Archives of the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach”.

6.   Subject to change

The MFO reserves the right to change, supplement, delete, or temporarily or permanently discontinue the publication of its online image collection or information on the images without prior notice.

7.   Disclaimer

MFO assumes no responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, or quality of the information provided with the images. MFO accepts no liability whatsoever for the infringement of personal rights or copyrights by the user. It is the user's responsibility to verify the relevant rights.
